THE AWARD FOR CARE OF COLLECTIONS

AWARD FOR CONSERVATION
This Award recognises excellence
in completed projects involving
the conservation of the cultural heritage in the UK.
It is presented for a project judged to be the best
of those submitted. To be eligible, projects may be
focused on the conservation of individual items or
collections, of the decorative elements or fixtures
associated with a historic building (but not the building
itself), or of monuments and sculptures.
THE AWARD FOR CARE OF COLLECTIONS
This Award recognises excellence in completed projects
involving the care and preservation
of cultural heritage collections in the UK. It is presented for a project judged
to be the best of those submitted. To be eligible,
projects should be focused on improving the conditions
in which collections are housed.
Who can apply?
Conservators or teams working in the private or public
sectors in the UK are eligible to apply for these
Awards. Applications must be supported by those responsible for commissioning the work.
Timetable and Judging
Entrants for the Award for Conservation and the Award
for Care of Collections should submit a short application
using the on-line form below or the downloadable
PDF application form by 8 March 2005 (see
"How to apply" below for details). These will be sifted
and considered for short-listing by the Awards Screening
Panel. Only short-listed candidates will be asked for
full details of their projects. All short-listed candidates
for the Award for Conservation
will be informed in early April and asked to
submit full details of their projects by 20 May
2005.
Members of the Judging Panel will visit all the short-listed
projects during June and July 2005 in order to
meet those
involved and see the outcome of the projects at first
hand.
The members of the Screening and Judging
Panels will be publicised on the Awards website.
Assessment criteria for
the Award for Conservation and the Award for Care of
Collections
In assessing applications, the Screening Panel
will be looking for evidence of the following:
Exemplary work that may
influence future practice.
Improvement in the quality of physical and intellectual
access achieved
Effective communication of the project to the professional
community and
the general public.
Conditions
of entry
The work must have been carried out in the UK.
The outcome of the project must be accessible to the
public in the UK.
The project must have been finished by a date between
1 July 2003 and
31 January 2005.
Joint applications from conservators or others working
in collaboration are accepted.
All applicants must be clearly identified on the application
form.
Applications for the same project may also be made
for the Anna Plowden Trust
Award (using
a separate
form).
The decisions of the Judges are final.
Please note that entry material will not normally be
returned.The sponsoring and supporting organisations
reserve
the right to use any of the material submitted for publicity
purposes.
How to apply
To apply for the Award for Conservation or the Award
for Care of Collections, please follow the instructions
below.
On-line applications
To apply on-line, please complete the form below, indicating
which Award you are applying for.
A project description
of no more than 1000 words must
be entered into the box provided, making clear
how
the project meets the criteria stated and why it
is considered to be a potential Award-winner. Five images (in jpg, gif or tiff
format), illustrating the achievement of the
project,
must be submitted as part of your application.
These should tell the story of the project and should
focus on the conservation or collections care work
carried out. Instructions for how to submit the images
will be e-mailed to you once the
form
below has
been
submitted.
Please check that all fields have
been completed before submission. When you click on “Submit
your application”,
an e-mail containing your application will be sent
automatically to the Awards Administrator
and you will receive an acknowledgement e-mail message.
Postal applications
You may also download,
complete and print out the PDF application form.
This should be sent with a project description as outlined
above,
together with five images (photographs, not slides
please), to arrive no later than 8 March 2005,
to Conservation Awards, 702 The Chandlery,
50 Westminster Bridge
Road, London SE1 7QY. Please note that the Acrobat Reader software does not allow you to save a copy of the completed form. Although you can complete it using this software you must print it out in order to generate copies for submission and for your own refernce. All application material should
be copied onto a CD-ROM, to be sent with the application.
Text should be in Microsoft Word format. Images should
be in jpg, gif or tiff format. Explanatory captions
for all images must be included on the CD-ROM and
should be in Microsoft Word or Powerpoint format.
