UKIC Furniture & Wood Section

UKIC Furniture & Wood Section - Conservation and restoration of wooden objects

If you would like to suggest an event, a publication or otherwise, please contact the appropriate Committee member below, or write to fw@ukic.org.uk.

The Section

The Section is committed to broadening its membership, both in and outside the United Kingdom. Joining a professional body is important to conservators as a way to keep abreast of recent technical and historical developments, and to provide a focal point for the profession that opens communication and networking opportunities with other members.
If you would like to become a member or require further information concerning membership of UKIC, then go to the Membership page and using the online application form, be sure to specify the Furniture and Wood Section as your primary Section choice!

Furniture and Wood

A significant percentage of our target audience might be confused by what used to be called "The Furniture Section". Because we want the name to reflect the scope of members we want to attract, it is our hope that restorers of wooden objects which are not furniture, such as boats and architectural fittings, will find some recognition in "The Furniture and Wood Section". Many useful suggestions for a new name have been put forward by members in the Great Questionnaire held last winter. The most popular one was voted on during the Section AGM in March, with 70% in favour of the change. The change has been officially ratified at the UKIC AGM held the 25th July 2001.

Section Committee

The Section Committee meets ideally once a month to develop initiatives and monitor progress. Its members are elected annually. In their daily lives three of the committee members are self-employed conservators and four are employed in the public sector. We therefore welcome nominations particularly from conservators and restorers whose field of work is the private sector.
