UKIC Furniture and Wood Section

UKIC Furniture and Wood Section - Conservation and restoration of wooden objects

The Furniture Section was created in January 1995. It is open to all who are involved with the preservation and study of furniture and wooden objects. Its membership is drawn from both the public and private sectors, which combined provide a unique and important forum for the debate and development of furniture conservation. The Section's primary objective is to communicate with fellow conservators and heritage professionals, through its newsletter, website and programme of specialist conferences and events.

More than furniture, not just wood

The Section is actively developing its interests beyond the confines of furniture to encompass other relevant areas of wooden object conservation. The name change to "Furniture and Wood Section" (ratified at the UKIC AGM held the 25th July 2001) clearly reflects this. Our aim is to encourage conservators working with wood to promote other specialist areas of wooden object conservation. A wider perspective of wooden object conservation could include aspects of architectural, musical instrument, ethnographical and social history object conservation, that would provide beneficial information to both furniture and wooden object conservators.

If you have any views on this matter or information related to wooden object conservation, then please contact the Section.
