THE CONSERVATION REGISTER

Development Officer

Purpose

The purpose of this post is to develop, manage and promote the Conservation Register.

The Register Development Officer will work as part of a small team, based in the London offices of the UK Insititute for Conservation, and will take sole charge of the Register, its day-to-day operation, its enhancement and promotion over a three year period. S/he will have the administrative support of others in the office, but will be largely self-servicing in terms of correspondence and clerical work.

Job Description

  • To implement changes to the operation of the Register recommended by the Conservation Register Advisory Board. These will include:

    • Renewing the revision programme, by contacting all present registrants, updating the information held, and applying new categories and criteria.

    • Encouraging the maximum retention of registrants by helping them to seek accreditation

    • Enlisting new entrants to the Register

    • Overseeing the transfer of the Register database onto a new Access database, and its being made available on the web

  • To co-ordinate work with the computer consultant and other external professional services, e.g. designers, printers, advertising agents

  • To respond to requests from the public and organisations for information and advice and to provide guidance to users and to registrants

  • To revise and/or write registration, promotional and advisory documents, under the direction of the Advisory Board

  • To carry out promotion of the Register, for instance by arranging for editorial and advertising, liasing with journalists and broadcast media, organising stands, etc at relevant events, and by giving presentations on the Register

  • To liase with relevant stakeholders, including member organisations of NCCR, English Heritage, Historic Scotland, CCC

  • To collaborate with the Conservation Bureau of Historic Scotland in the operation and development of the Scottish component of the Register

  • To liaise with the Building Conservation Centre and its Heritage Information Exchange, which aims to provide parallel information for the built heritage

  • To seek funding for this project and for the future of the Register which is not already covered by the grants from the three main funding partners

  • To ensure that financial records (maintained by UKIC bookkeeper and accountant) are up-to-date and accurate; and to ensure that quarterly accounts and claims are submitted to English Heritage, and as required to Recourse and Historic Scotland

  • To act as secretary to the Conservation Register Advisory Board, convening meetings, keeping and circulating minutes, etc.

  • To contribute when necessary to the other work of the office, and carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
