Coventry: JB has supplied a budget estimate based on around 80 people attending. The intention is to provide a CD-Rom to those attending recording the day’s events. The minimum order for CDs is 500 @ £1600. Based on this the admission figure is estimated at £20 for members, £25 for non-members and £12 for students plus £5 for a copy of the CD. Granville and Burbidge have offered to pay of the reception (approx. cost £200). UKIC may make a slight loss on the day, unlikely to exceed £500. The date the scaffolding comes down has been changed. Suggest it is now more sensible to go for 25 October or 1 November 2003. RG to suggest this to JB. Information for the day should include train times and cost, and prompting to bring binoculars. The day’s schedule has been drafted (ref JB’s notes). Discussed possible re-working to emphasise conservation project, with possibly putting JB’s talk earlier, perhaps 2nd for 45 mins. Other talks could be perhaps reduced to 30mins. Also a suggestion that a tour (or access) of the Church prior to the talks would be helpful, returning at the end of the day to follow up.
Action JB, RG
Peterborough: RG has given his name as contact for Peterborough in the current advert in GV. For the day Hugh Harrison will be on-site to discuss timber treatment. The Perry Lithgow partnership will discuss the ceiling decoration, and other areas throughout the cathedral. 40 people may go on scaffold at one time. 11.00 am start at the west front. Train times to be supplied. The plan for the day will be to start with a short introduction, then discuss timber, break for lunch, return to complete tour after lunch. Lunch will be in rooms opposite Cathedral which can be rented by the hour- estimated cost £5-6 per head. Cathedral also requires £3.00 per head as voluntary contribution for the visit. Suggested fees for the day are £10.00 non members, £8.00 members, £4.00 students. RG will write this up and circulate
Action RG
Baroque seminar: deadline for advertising in CN 24 July. CB to write up. Target fee for the day may be £30-40 bringing in a figure of 2.5-3k. There will be costs such as photocopying and catering to consider. The location is to be the Royal Academy in the Reynolds Room on 31 Jan 2004. This is to be the first in a 3 part wall paintings series. The next to be medieval in Autumn 2004, and the final part 19th and 20th century in January 2005 with a publication to follow.
Action CB
The natural Stone and Building conservation conference: 9-11 March 2004. SH and DO to collaborate on this. Committee is supportive of the project. Perhaps tie in AGM for the wall paintings.
Action SH and DO
Case studies day for stone proposed for this Autumn: Ideas are needed by the 24 July for CN deadline. Mid October would be ideal. Norwich cloisters suggested.
4 Editors report
Editors report emailed by JB and VR. Committee review this. Suggestions
made include adding a review of Helen Howard’s new book on medieval wall
paintings; and a review of Peterborough day. The web site needs reworking.
DO suggests a fairly permanent page as updating is unlikely. Chris Weeks has
offered to do the work. Need to re-evaluate the work currently on the site.
Would JB and VR be prepared to take this on? Idea of recruitment adverts
inserted is not supported.

(1) Accreditation and RIBA. SS refers to article in RIBA Bulletin 29/05/03. SS has written a summary as discussion document. RG to type up and circulate amongst committee for comment.
(2) Wall painting assessors. Currently Stephen Paine and Alison Sawdy. Sawdy lives in Cologne, and RM tabled a discussion on the nead for alternates, possibly looking into those with more varied backgrounds to offer additional choice. It was suggested that the committee ask Richard Lithgow and Tom Organ. Also queried the time limit for appointments, and this might be worth reviewing.
Action: RG to discuss with Katy Lithgow for next PACR meeting.
