Oracle continues to invest in making maps and location-enabled applications available to all developers and applications. The use of standard Oracle database components like Oracle Locator and Oracle Spatial continues to expand rapidly, and Oracle MapViewer is included in every Oracle Application Server and Oracle Fusion Middleware installation. These technologies are enabling next-generation mapping and location analysis capabilities in the Oracle database and application server.

More and more, businesses are requiring the capability to show assets on a map and to visualize their key performance indicators geographically in a clear and concise way. This is driving application developers, who understand the need to easily add maps to their applications.

Oracle and Nokia have been collaborating to provide turnkey map and other content specifically created for the Oracle platform. This content conforms to the Oracle Locator and Oracle Spatial standards for mapping and location analysis, geocoding and routing. NAVTEQ Maps includes prebuilt tables and indexes and installs in minutes using Oracle Transportable Tablespaces. NAVTEQ map data offerings are available specifically for deployment with OBIEE. NAVTEQ administrative boundary datasets can be downloaded directly from the Oracle Technology Network and used for map display of your enterprise data. Additional detailed street-level data, postal code boundaries, census boundaries and other content can be licensed directly from Nokia or authorized resellers. Also, many NAVTEQ Map resellers offer industry-specific location data and extended demographic, consumer and business data variables that can be integrated with NAVTEQ map data in the OBIEE environment.

Web Services
For over ten years we have been shipping database content that can be rendered using Oracle Fusion Middleware MapViewer, Oracle's Application Server map rendering, integration, and mash-up software. Oracle customers have asked us for access to its industry leading map data and location content through an external web service while still using Oracle Fusion Middleware MapViewer. This will eliminate the task of maintaining the content in the database for mapping applications.
