The draft accreditation documents previously available from this site were first issued to interested parties in March 1999. Many people within and outside conservation, in the UK and abroad, have commented on the documents. Trials of the accreditation process have tested the standards in action. The documents on this web site have been extensively consulted, with about 1500 downloads of the documents. JAG is now revising the documents in the light of these comments. Following a further check by the organising bodies, the standards and assessment procedure will be finalised at the end of July. The final documents will be posted on this site as soon as possible thereafter. The system will be implemented in January 2000 by the Conservation Forum and the accrediting bodies. The success of the accreditation system over the coming years depends on input from conservation profession. Conservators have put an enormous effort into developing the standards and the methodology. The profession will be reliant on experienced conservators, especially senior ones and those who have been accredited, to uphold the standards in their work and in the accreditation process. If you are likely to apply for accreditation through one of the UK accrediting bodies in the coming years, it would be useful if you could register your interest. It is therefore hoped that a form will be made available here soon for this purpose. Joint Accreditation Group |
