From the Chair

Since last writing, the Committee has met on a regular basis and some tangible results can be reported. The recruitment drive focusing on students got off to a good start with visits to London Guildhall University, Buckinghamshire Chilterns University, Rycotewood College and West Dean College, visits to othe establishments offering furniture conservation course are planned for the near future.

The email list compiled to enable easier communication with the Section membership has grown steadily. I am sure there are still more "online" members who I have yet to reach and I would be most grateful for an email from anyone wishing to join in the fun. There is a serious purpose to this project in that the Committee is administrating the section on behalf of the membership and this medium gives members the opportunity to give feedback easily at any time, not just at the AGM. The Section web pages have been much enlivened by Ivo van Sandick, Section editor and web guru, and further exciting developments are planned across the whole UKIC site in due course.

The organisation of the 2002 AGM and seminar are well underway. Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the debate with a short paper concerning conservation methods and materials past and present will be most welcome.

Hard CPD events are proving more difflicult to organise than first thought but some progress has been made in organising a practical science training day next year. The submission of accredited members' written CPD reviews for verification in early 2002 is focusing the minds of all ACRs. The Section Committee is conscious that events to support CPD have not been as plentiful as they had hoped in this year, however, next year should prove more fruitful in that respect and we look forward to lively and well attended events.
