What We Do
Whether someone is using an in-car navigation system to get from here to there, checking their PND to find the closest fuel station on their way home, or finding their way around a new city on foot using their mobile phone, NAVTEQ Map data is at the core of this burgeoning location-enabled world.
But it's not just about data, it's about data quality. From the outset, this has been critical to our mission. And as the applications for location-enabled data expand, the consumer experience will only be as good as the underlying foundation. So for the NAVTEQ Map that means tapping over 80,000 sources, but going beyond that when necessary to the quality of the experience and putting geographic analysts around the world in the field to collect the right data. It means having the most comprehensive blend of sources for our traffic data, including probe data, incident and flow data, historic traffic information and government and our own proprietary traffic sensors. And it also means building the right business models and services for our customers to help them engage with their consumers in this new world, including the ability to target advertising to a person's particular location.
Our data powered the first luxury car navigation system launched in Europe in 1995, and with the quality and innovation which has been at the hallmark of the NAVTEQ Map ever since, we now count top companies in the vehicle, portable, wireless and internet space as our customers.
